Oasis is a collaborative virtual reality project with ten graphic and industrial designers that examines the desolation of a post-capitalist society in the context of COVID-19 pandemic.

Inspired by the images of abandoned commercial public spaces, where nature has taken steps to reclaim what humans once occupied, Oasis borrows the metaphor of a desolated shopping mall.

Ten rooms of the virtual mall are reimagined in hopes to engage participants to meditate and introspect. The interactive experience explores concepts such as teleportation, perspective shifts, conditional design, and escapism. The project is built remotely with Unity, during the COVID-19 lockdown, realising what virtual design collaboration would look like in this setting.

The player must alternate between three identities, each with their advantages and limitations, to move forward in the three levels.

Collaborators: Bansri Thakkar, Michael Maclean, Alexander Twaddle, Jenii Cyrus, Grace Spee, Abinash Mallick, Rohan Panchal, Arda Erdeniz, Alex Domasik

Regeneration is a room in the Oasis mall that explores the participatory process of dynamically reclaiming space through creativity and reflection.
